What is freelance?
Freelance work constitutes any design
or programming work I provide for you directly instead of
through one of the many consulting companies for whom I provide
services.
Unlike many places, I prefer not to
provide flat price estimates for work I am to provide as this
often is more to the provider's benefit than to the customer.
Flat pricing means the provider needs to insert costs for
possible work overruns on time, materials, and changes in
addition to their profit margins. This is money you do not
get back as a client if these overages don't happen, but have
to be built in to protect the companies in case they do happen.
My prefered method of work, especially
for freelance jobs, is to give you an estimate on how long
I belive it will take to complete a job, but to reach an agreement
on a fair hourly rate for all services to be provided.
This not only allows us the flexibility
of changing what you need/want as the project develops without
major pricing issues, but it also keeps your costs down when
everything runs smoothly and can be produced under original
estimates. You only pay for work and hours actually used,
not for any safety net hours.
